Hello! Hope you are having a wonderful week! Since both hubby and I are off until after the first of the year, we took Wednesday and headed to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge for some fun. It was our first trip up there since the devastating forest fires in November. We keep hearing the best way to help is come visit and spend some money – so that’s what we did. Our first stop was Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies. Since I took over 400 photos for the day (and 185 at the aquarium alone), I have decided to break the day into multiple blog posts.
We lucked out with a gorgeous sunny, but cool day. A black tunic, red leggings, and black fuzzy boots made for the perfect traveling and walking outfit. I didn’t have to put a coat on until the sun went down!
Loved seeing all the Christmas decorations at the aquarium and throughout Gatlinburg!
We bought our tickets online in order to save a few dollars and to bypass the ticketing office. We were able to just walk right in.
This guy was one of the first creatures we saw and I just fell in love with him. Check out that tongue!
Gotta love the jellyfish. So beautiful. I could watch them float all day.
That orange thing in the back is a barnacle. So colorful!
This is a sea dragon. Isn’t he cool looking? They also had sea horse exhibits but the sea horses weren’t feeling very photogenic.
My favorite part of the entire place was the shark tunnel. You could walk through or stand on the people mover and just watch the fish, sharks, turtles, etc to the side and above you. I definitely did the people mover since I was taking so many photos. We wound up actually going through the entire aquarium twice because I wanted to go through the tunnel again (and try to get another glimpse of the sea turtle).
There was only one sea turtle and we managed just a few quick glimpses of him. How magnificent is he!
So many fish . . .
Check out how colorful this little guy is! He really stood out!
This is a lion fish. They are super funky looking!
More jellyfish!
He’s watching you…..
Gotta love that face!
Penguins! Another one of my favorite creatures.
Back in the shark tunnel . . .
If you ever get the chance to visit, it is definitely worth a trip. There are also TONS of exhibits specifically for kids and a few “petting” areas. There is a parking garage super close by as well (as parking is sometimes hard to find in Gatlinburg).
